Visual Arts
Nederland Middle-Senior High School provides our students with an in-depth pathway in the visual arts. When students are in middle school they begin their art experience in 6th grade where they are exposed to drawing, painting, photography, pottery, and sculpture throughout the year. In 7th and 8th grade, students continue to deepen their understanding of the elements and principles of art and design by taking Art 1 and Art 2.
After having been exposed to a variety of media in middle school, students have the opportunity to experience a multi-year survey of classic artistic mediums. With level one through four courses in Drawing & Painting, Pottery & Sculpture, and Photography, students progress their skills toward our culminating course in Advanced Placement Studio Art. Graduates leave our program with a substantial body of work, suitable for college entrance submittals and developing professional portfolios.
